New hair, new shoes, and a happy new year!

30.12.13

I hope you've all had a great Christmas. Apart from having a constant headache from eating too much chocolate I've had a grand time! I got to see my family and Jonathan's family, do a bit of sale shopping, get plenty of sleep, have a blog makeover, spend quality time with L&L and generally hibernate inside, avoiding the awful weather! We still have two days to enjoy before we go back to work.

I forgot all about these photos from when Jonathan and I met my mum and dad for lunch the weekend before Christmas. It seems like a million years ago now as so much has happened since.

They were taken the day after I had a huge chunk of hair chopped off. That's my second drastic haircut of 2013 due to the rate that it grows, although it still doesn't feel that short. I may go shorter next time! I'm really happy with it and have found it really quick and easy to style. It's also nice to get a bit more volume. Although I did like my long hair, I always felt a bit drab.

We drove to Horsforth in Leeds to meet my parents for lunch as our usual meet-halfway-between-Rotherham-and-Leeds lunch spot was fully booked. We went to a great place called the Brownlee Arms and ate and drank until we were completely stuffed.

I have got a few goals/resolutions for 2014 but one of them is definitely: take more flipping photos when I go out and about and don't forget to blog about them! ;)

Anyway, this may be my last blog post for 2013 so I will bid you a very happy New Years Eve for tomorrow night. Have a great time whatever you have got planned. We are going to a party at a friends house with a few other couples that we know and there's a fancy dress theme of the 90s. Jonathan and I are both waiting for parcels to arrive with the final touches to our fancy dress ideas so tomorrow could be interesting if they don't arrive. Anyway, have a good one and I'll see you in 2014!

Walkies.

23.12.13

One of the best things about having two weeks off over Christmas is spending all that extra time with Lily and Lola and, when it's not torrential rain or blowing a gale, enjoying some lovely walks.

Lily is a nightmare at this time of year as she gets really cold and often refuses to walk, so I have been on the hunt for a coat/jumper for her for ages. But the problem I find is that they're always either too tight or too big/too long, so they don't really own anything that is a perfect fit due to their oddly shaped proportions.

I think Pet London must have read my mind because they got in touch with me recently and after browsing their website I found a whole host of amazing jumpers, coats and harnesses. They very kindly offered to send Lily an item of her choice. Enter the snowball jacket harness which arrived recently along with a few other little goodies.

The jacket harness is such a brilliant idea, saving the hassle of putting Lily in her harness and a separate coat. It's a doddle to pop on! The fleece lining keeps the chill off her belly and doesn't rub against her legs. The pattern is great, not too festive so that it can only be used over Christmas but definitely perfect for the next few cold months ahead.

I plan to get another one for Lola so that they match and can both stay cosy warm on their winter walks.

Lily's harness is an XL. They're both quite small compared to other Pugs that we see out and about so it is always difficult finding things to fit them, but after a quick chat with Pet London and going over their measurements we found the perfect item!

Lola didn't miss out and nabbed a velour Crest Hoody which is adorable and fits like a glove! Her fur isn't as thick as Lily's so although she's a bit tougher outside in the cold I still like to make sure she is keeping warm.

Pet London is a one stop shop for all of your doggy related needs, whether it's a lead and collar, clothing, bathing items, beds, carriers or toys. I am definitely a new fan and will be placing a cheeky order very soon!

My 2013 Christmas cards.

22.12.13

Every year I try to make a handful of special cards for family and this year I pushed the boat out, trying some cross stitch patterns from the Cross Stitcher Handmade Cards annual.

I am really pleased with how they came out. I chose three different designs, a Christmas pudding, a Snowman and some pretty baubles. With the addition of some buttons, a black pen and a gold pen, and of course some blank cards/envelopes they were really easy to put together but look really effective.

The only problem is that they took so long to do I could only make a handful which means I have had to send shop bought cards too (shock horror!)

Have you made or bought your cards this year?

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

14.12.13

Forgive the unimaginative title but it's rather fitting as last weekend we put a few festive bits and bobs up round the house. I dug out the cross stitch garland I made last year and popped that on the fireplace, we put our tree up, and the cutest little gingerbread man garland I found on Etsy last year, and Lily and Lola truly got into the spirit and donned their reindeer jumpers.

Not long to go folks!

Wishlist: Mohekann.

12.12.13

When I first spotted the Mohekann bag range I fell in love. They are all so beautiful! I tried to pick a couple of favourites to share with you but I couldn't so I've basically picked out half the range!

I love the art deco style gold and purple panels on the clutch bag, and the tassels on the black handbag, and would quite happily give any one of them a new home in my wardrobe.

The clutch bags would be perfect for a night out with a little black dress and some killer heels.

Have you heard of this range before? I only found them recently and it's not a brand I'd been familiar with before that but I am certainly loving them now!

5 good things.

10.12.13

Ooh it's getting close to Christmas and I couldn't be more excited! After 4 days off at home I feel a little bit more prepared for it. Presents are wrapped, cards are written, the tree is up. Lily and Lola even dusted off their reindeer outfits in preparation for the big day (photographic evidence below...)

Here are my 5 good things at the moment!

1) Getting into the habit of wearing rings and nail polish again! My fingers have been a bit neglected recently because, quite frankly, I'm lazy. But I recently ordered a few bits from my sister's jewellery store, Delly Dumpling on Etsy, and I love every piece.

All of the rings below are from her store apart from the tiny heart ring. I am in love with the gold feather ring and the chunky arrow ring.

Her prices are really reasonable and she has a mix of silver and gold designs so do go have a look! She sells over the knuckle rings too if you like those.

2) Working out. I am back on track with the help of my Fitness Blender plan (currently using the one for busy people with each workout 30 minutes or less). I find that doing little and often works much better for me than doing an hour+ a few times a week. Once I get going I am happy to do a little bit every day, or most days.

3) After battling with my acne for a few years and trying all sorts of products and treatments I was running out of ideas on what to do and feeling awfully blue about it all. Anyway, I had a microdermabrasion facial last Friday which worked really well on my scarring. I'm booked in for another this week and I am hoping they will make a big difference to my skin and confidence. I will do a blog post about it all at some point.

4) Plans to see my parents on Saturday for lunch, followed by friends coming over in the evening and a spot of crafting and relaxing on Sunday.

5) Reading. I recently downloaded a whole bunch of books to my Kindle to keep me going over the next few weeks. I just started the new Mhairi McFarlane book. So far so good!

Totally unrelated to my 5 good things but cute or what :)

Christmas Dog Treat Box (& a giveaway!)

9.12.13

What do you buy the person who got a new dog recently, the person who loves to spoil their dog silly or for your own pampered pooches? A Dog Treat Box!

Christmas came early for Lily and Lola recently when they received their very own box (c/o PetsPyjamas). It contains an adorable gingerbread man teddy (who they love to snuggle up to while we're out and about), a Christmas tree shaped stack of biscuits (which they're already half way through), nose/feet balm for when the super cold weather arrives, a rope chew toy, a cracker bone chew, an adorable bandana and, last but not least, a rawhide Christmas card.

PetsPyjamas is like a one stop shop for anything you could need for your pet. Bowls, clothes, leads, collars. But they also sell lifestyle items too, so think pet inspired cushions, prints, mugs, tote bags. It's such a great website where you can get lost browsing items for ages and ages. I have even spotted Pug candles. Oh my! Also, the code PETFRIENDS15 will get you 15% off anything from the site so it's definitely worth having a nosy.

I think these boxes are such cute ideas for a one off occasion. Lily and Lola are selective with the toys they like to play with (i.e. they pretty much don't like anything) so they haven't played with their rope toy much but they love the teddy and the other edible items (typical!) and I have got the Mucky Pup balm on standby for their chapped noses and pads when it starts to snow/get reeeally cold.

PetsPyjamas are currently running a competition where you can win your very own box to pass on to your pampered pooch(es). All you have to do is head here and fill out your details. Easy peasy!
