Green Monsters.

8.2.11

I'm finally back in the world of smoothie making after receiving a blender for my birthday. I'd had my eye on this Argos model before my birthday as it is very reasonably priced and has received some really good reviews. I'll probably just use mine for blending fruit so it's perfect for that.

I discovered Green Monsters on Oh She Glows and have been obsessed with them ever since. I made some at the weekend - for two glasses worth I throw in 1 banana, 2 handfuls of spinach, a mug of soya milk and some ice cubes. Then I blend away until it is a smooth texture. It really is delicious and a good way to sneak in some of your '5 a day' without munching away on it.

Have I tempted you? Once you get over the fact it's bright green I'm certain you will love it.

I'm on the hunt for new smoothie recipes so please do let me know of any that you have tried, tested and enjoyed!

  2. Ooh that's really good you've been having them, I made one once but I couldn't stomach it. I'm not sure why I was surprised as I don't really like bananas, but it was more the fact that the spinach was all chewy and kept getting stuck in my teeth! They really are so good for you though so I do wish I liked them! Asda and Sainsbury's do bags of frozen fruit in the freezer aisles that I buy - mixed berries, or cherries, and strawberries etc, and I usually just bung a load of those in with some milk and they are SO tasty!

  3. I love Green Monsters! I discovered them when you first blogged about them. I make mine using frozen spinach so leave out the ice cubes. They're delicious :) x

  4. Banana and Spinach together? Bleugh ;P The fact I'm dairy intolerant and have to drink soy milk already (which I hate!!) makes it even less appealing! x

  6. I'm really into juicing at the moment, so a greem monster smoothie sounds good.

  7. I usually make my green monters with banana and spinach like you but then I also throw in some frozen mixed berries or some fresh pineapple and coconut for a nice tropical one.
If I really want to make sure that I'll be full until lunchtime I also use some oats and flaxseeds.

  8. I don't like bananas in smoothies but I do really like ones that contain things other than fruit!

I make 'raw juice' that you get from wagamamas but have yet to get the proportions right for it to taste the same! you use carrot, cucumber, tomato, orange and apple. :)

Usually we keep mixed berries, pineapple, oranges, pears and apples, oranges and mango in the fridge and just use a different combination every day.

  15. Hi Viktoria :)
I am new here, but I like your blog very much.
This Green Monster looks a bit weird for me, despite I love banana and spinach as well, but separate.
Sorry for my composition, I am hungarian, and I am still looking for the adequate words in english.:)
